Moses Finds his Forever Home

The day before Good Friday, a sweet adult cat was left abandoned outside the Ontario SPCA Leeds & Grenville Branch.

Since we met him on Easter weekend, he became known as “Moses”.

We estimated Moses’ age between 10-12 years. Everyone loved him because of his size and his huge heart: he was one of the most affectionate cats in the shelter.

Moses stayed with us for a month and a half because no one wanted to adopt an older cat. That was until Holly and her mother came in.

Holly is an amazing young girl: she not only wanted to adopt Moses, but she also used her babysitting money to do so. It takes a special person to give an older animal a forever home.

Volunteer Spotlight

One of our long time volunteers is Linda Ellis. She’s been helping out at the Ontario SPCA Leeds & Grenville Branch in many different ways for the past ten years.

Linda prefers to help with the cleaning of our cat rooms but recently she became one of our designated drivers, delivering animals to their vet appointments and to and from our other branches or satellite sites.

Ask Linda to do something for us and she gets it done, whether that’s answering the phone, helping customers or doing pickups of donations from our community partners.

Like many of our dedicated volunteers, Linda not only helps with our current animals, but she also adopted from our branch offering a forever home to her dog “Sox”.

Thank you Linda!

Donor Recognition

The Ontario SPCA Leeds & Grenville Branch’s memorable donor this month is Heather Dillon.

This spring, Heather adopted “Ronald”, a wonderful orange coloured cat from us during our iAdopt for Spring campaign while also asking if she could start volunteering with us.

Heather quickly became a reliable early morning dog walker.

During this time, we had a special appeal out to our community, asking for monetary donations to help cover the cost of a double eye surgery for a dog in our care.

Shortly after the start of this appeal, Heather stepped up to cover off the remaining amount, eager to put her donation towards a special dog’s surgery.

Heather hasn’t stopped giving either, as she continues to walk our dogs every Friday morning, rain or shine. Thank you Heather!

iAdopt Urgent Appeal a Great Success

Ontario SPCA branches across the province recently experienced a high influx of adult cats in their care so we created an iAdopt Urgent Appeal campaign, asking people to consider adopting an adult cat from their local branch.

From June 20 - July 6, 2014, adult cat adoption fees were reduced to only $50.

We are happy to report that in just over two weeks, 224 adult cats were adopted from our branches, and are now enjoying thier forever homes. Thank you to all those who took part!
