A Special Surprise

Natalie Rowe and Gordon Cambell are a loving couple that has adopted from the Ontario SPCA SD&G Branch several times.

We asked them just before Easter if they may have room for some chickens and a very sweet Pot-bellied pig named “Ophelia”. We were thrilled when they said yes!

They built a lovely shelter for their new family members before heading out on a short trip. Upon their return, they noticed that Ophelia had gained a lot of weight. On Easter Sunday she gave Natalie and Gordon a wonderful surprise: a litter of beautiful piglets!

Congratulations to Ophelia and many thanks to Natalie and Gordon for their limitless capacity for caring and loving.

Volunteer Spotlight!

Michelle Lefebvre has attended the Ontario SPCA SD&G Branch's Camp Bark from 2005-2010.

From 2011-2014, Michelle returned as a camp counselor, to volunteer her time to help with the kids.

Working with children and animals has always been a passion of hers because she feels it’s a wonderful learning experience.

Michelle has also been awarded recognition by the province of Ontario for volunteering over 400 hours as a student.

She feels like she is part of the Ontario SPCA family, and we feel that way as well.

Thank you, Michelle, for your years of generosity and selflessness!

The Animals Thank You

Here at the Ontario SPCA SD&G Branch, we have lots of children and adults that forgo gifts for their birthdays, and ask their friends to donate items to help the animals in our community instead.

Marquise Sirois-Chevrier recently had her 9th birthday: she asked for gifts for the animals instead of for herself, and brought the animals a treasure trove of goodies and toys.

Thank you, Marquise, from all your furry friends at the Ontario SD&G Branch!

iAdopt Urgent Appeal a Great Success

Ontario SPCA branches across the province recently experienced a high influx of adult cats in their care so we created an iAdopt Urgent Appeal campaign, asking people to consider adopting an adult cat from their local branch.

From June 20 - July 6, 2014, adult cat adoption fees were reduced to only $50.

We are happy to report that in just over two weeks, 224 adult cats were adopted from our branches, and are now enjoying thier forever homes. Thank you to all those who took part!

Don't Forget Your Pet

The Ontario SPCA and participating shelters across Canada are working together to share the dangers of leaving pets unattended in hot vehicles.

We are asking for your help in sharing this message too. Take the pledge now!

Check out our collaborative PSA with York Region Police and Toronto Police Services.

If you see a pet in a hot vehicle, report it! Reporting is as easy as dialing 310-SPCA.

Lets have no hot pets this summer!
