Adopt Huron September

Older cats are wonderful companions

When it comes to adoptions, the thought of a fluffy young kitten can spring to mind.

For first-time adopters, adult cats may be the ideal fit because they are already litter trained and require less daily care than an inexperienced kitten.

Many mature cats tend to sleep more, are self-sufficient and prefer low-key snuggling.

If you feel an adult cat may fit in well with your family, contact us at the Ontario SPCA Huron County Branch and take advantage of our #iAdopt4Fall adoption campaign.

From now until September 30th, 2014, you can adopt an adult cat for only $99!

Roberta’s bottle drive reaps rewards

The Ontario SPCA Huron County Branch would like to highlight the success of our volunteer Roberta this month.

Although she has been volunteering for approximately five years, Roberta began collecting bottles for the refund money around three years ago.

By accumulating discarded beer and liquor bottles, she knew the refund money would be a big asset to the animals at our branch.

Once the community learned of her strategy, they began dropping off bottles to fuel her bottle drive. Over $600 has been raised since she began!

Thank you Roberta for all of your efforts.

BMO Financial Group makes a difference

Thanks to the BMO Financial Group’s Volunteer Grants Program, which provides funds to organizations supported by BMO employees, Darlene Lightfoot was pleased to present a cheque for $1,250 to the Ontario SPCA Huron County Branch!

Her countless hours of volunteer work has made an enormous impact on the lives of animals in our shelter.

BMO recognizes and supports the volunteer efforts of their employees through this program.

Thank you Darlene and thank you BMO!

Tips for Student Volunteers

The fall is a great time to volunteer, whether it’s for community hours or for job experience.

The Ontario SPCA receives hundreds of student volunteer applications every year; therefore it’s important that your application stands out.

If you are a high school student looking for a position within the Ontario SPCA, there are things you can do!

The most important tip is to complete every section of the online application form.

Apply early! If you need hours for the coming year, don’t wait until the end of the first semester to apply.

Positions are limited and the volunteer recruitment process can take a month or more to complete.

Volunteer positions can pop up at anytime, so check the website regularly so you don’t miss out!

Friends For Life! Walk is THIS weekend!

Tails are wagging for the Ontario SPCA Friends for Life!Walk™ .

We’re now in our final stretch with only a week left to go!

This weekend, thousands of walk participants across the province, will enjoy a stroll with their families around the park in their community to help raise support for animals in need across Ontario.

We encourage everyone to come out and walk with us! Even if you don’t have a pet, come out to enjoy the day and support this worthwhile cause.

Everyone who registered is working hard to raise pledges and we appreciate your support! If you’re unable to walk, you can always support a walker. Click here to find a person or team to sponsor.

If you haven’t registered, you still can! Just go to friendsforlifewalk.ca.

We’ll see you at the walk!
