Hearing-impaired Husky finds loving home

When the Ontario SPCA Kent Branch met “Horton”, a one-year old Husky mix who had impaired hearing, they knew it would be crucial to find a loving, patient home that could work with his disability.

In an amazing twist of fate, Tillsonburg resident Wayne and his wife noticed Horton’s photo on our adoption page.
They ran a camp for children with disabilities including hearing impairment, and would be able to give Horton the best of care.

Horton’s new job involves lots of fun and love at camp!

Our staff couldn't be happier to see Horton find his perfect match.

Family trio gets involved!

We’d like to spotlight Shreeni Lafontaine and her two daughters, Millene and Felize, this month for their marvelous contributions to the Ontario SPCA Kent Branch.

They initially became involved with the idea that the girls could learn about responsible pet ownership and the potential lack of care that can lead to neglect.

Their primary interest involves socializing the cats that are available for adoption to help facilitate their transition into new homes.

The family has adopted several animals from the shelter over the years, including two dogs, three cats, and two turtles.

Thank you to the Lafontaine family for all of your contributions to the animals at our shelter!

Junior Achievement camp fundraiser a success

The Ontario SPCA Kent Branch received some helpful contributions from a group of students taking part in Junior Achievement’s summer business camp.

The kids, ranging in ages 9-13, formed businesses to create products and held a sale at the Downtown Chatham Centre.

Half of the money raised was earmarked for a local charity, and the students unanimously decided to donate their profits to the Ontario SPCA Kent Branch.

All four businesses sold out within half an hour, and they raised $100 for the shelter.

Great work everyone!

Fall in Love - iAdopt for Fall

Fall is a great time to welcome a new addition into your family! Because there’s no better time to fall in love, iAdopt For Fall.

There are many animals awaiting their forever homes at Ontario SPCA Communities across the province. Our adoption campaign “iAdopt for Fall” aims to get as many animals as possible placed into their loving forever homes.

For the month of September, the adoption rate for all adult cats is only $99 at all Ontario SPCA branches.

There is still time! iAdopt for Fall ends September 30th.

Take our online Meet Your Match™ adopter survey so you’ll know before coming in to one of our shelters which type of animal you really click with. Take the survey now!

Tips for Student Volunteers

The fall is a great time to volunteer, whether it’s for community hours or for job experience.

The Ontario SPCA receives hundreds of student volunteer applications every year; therefore it’s important that your application stands out.

If you are a high school student looking for a position within the Ontario SPCA, there are things you can do!

The most important tip is to complete every section of the online application form.

Apply early! If you need hours for the coming year, don’t wait until the end of the first semester to apply.

Positions are limited and the volunteer recruitment process can take a month or more to complete.

Volunteer positions can pop up at anytime, so check the website regularly so you don’t miss out!

Friends For Life! Walk is THIS weekend!

Tails are wagging for the Ontario SPCA Friends for Life!Walk™ .

We’re now in our final stretch with only a week left to go!

This weekend, thousands of walk participants across the province, will enjoy a stroll with their families around the park in their community to help raise support for animals in need across Ontario.

We encourage everyone to come out and walk with us! Even if you don’t have a pet, come out to enjoy the day and support this worthwhile cause.

Everyone who registered is working hard to raise pledges and we appreciate your support! If you’re unable to walk, you can always support a walker. Click here to find a person or team to sponsor.

If you haven’t registered, you still can! Just go to friendsforlifewalk.ca.

We’ll see you at the walk!
