Adopt Leeds Sept

The Lavoie family goes the distance

When dogs come into our shelters and are ready for adoption, they are assessed as part of the Meet Your Match® personality assessment program.

When “Abby” was assessed, her profile indicated she was a “Busy Bee”, and she matched the active, inquisitive type very well! We knew she would need a similarly energetic and enthusiastic family to keep up with her.

Near the end of July, the Lavoie family contacted us from Sudbury after learning about Abby. They knew the Beagle mix would fit in just perfectly with their family, and couldn’t wait to meet her.

Before we could make arrangements to transfer her up to a facility closer to the Lavoie’s, they decided to make the eight hour, round-trip drive to see her. It was love at first sight, and Abby went home with them that same day.

Everyone here at the Ontario SPCA Leeds & Grenville Branch wishes them the very best!

Kids enjoy crawling critters

This month, we’d like to spotlight Matt Ellerbeck, aka “The Salamander Guy” for his awesome contributions here at the Ontario SPCA Leeds & Grenville Branch.

He has generously donated his time, along with colleagues Clinton and Tyson. Unloading bin after bin, Matt’s “Critter Camp” is always a huge hit with the kids, particularly the newts and salamanders.

Turtles, tortoises and even snakes really helped the kids learn about nature and why it’s so important to care about and respect our local wildlife.

Thanks to volunteers like Matt, the next generation of animal lovers can learn about animals, and share that knowledge with friends and family.

Thank you Matt, for all of your efforts, and for thrilling the kids with your wonderful critters!

The Gambles go “Around the World in 80 Spays”

William and Andrea Gamble have been true supporters of the cats and kittens here at the Ontario SPCA Leeds & Grenville Branch.

Not only do they contribute Iams cat food on a monthly basis, but they also bring in toys and spend quality time socializing and playing with all of our felines. They also have two adopted cats from our branch named “Bubbles” and “Spooky”.

The Gambles attended our “Around the World in 80 Spays” Food Tasting and Auction Event for the first time last year, and had a blast!

Both William and Andrea are looking forward to attending this fabulous fundraiser again on November 6, 2014.

Supporters like the Gambles make a big difference in the lives of animals, and we thank them for their contributions!

Fall in Love - iAdopt for Fall

Fall is a great time to welcome a new addition into your family! Because there’s no better time to fall in love, iAdopt For Fall.

There are many animals awaiting their forever homes at Ontario SPCA Communities across the province. Our adoption campaign “iAdopt for Fall” aims to get as many animals as possible placed into their loving forever homes.

For the month of September, the adoption rate for all adult cats is only $99 at all Ontario SPCA branches.

There is still time! iAdopt for Fall ends September 30th.

Take our online Meet Your Match™ adopter survey so you’ll know before coming in to one of our shelters which type of animal you really click with. Take the survey now!

Tips for Student Volunteers

The fall is a great time to volunteer, whether it’s for community hours or for job experience.

The Ontario SPCA receives hundreds of student volunteer applications every year; therefore it’s important that your application stands out.

If you are a high school student looking for a position within the Ontario SPCA, there are things you can do!

The most important tip is to complete every section of the online application form.

Apply early! If you need hours for the coming year, don’t wait until the end of the first semester to apply.

Positions are limited and the volunteer recruitment process can take a month or more to complete.

Volunteer positions can pop up at anytime, so check the website regularly so you don’t miss out!

Friends For Life! Walk is THIS weekend!

Tails are wagging for the Ontario SPCA Friends for Life!Walk™ .

We’re now in our final stretch with only a week left to go!

This weekend, thousands of walk participants across the province, will enjoy a stroll with their families around the park in their community to help raise support for animals in need across Ontario.

We encourage everyone to come out and walk with us! Even if you don’t have a pet, come out to enjoy the day and support this worthwhile cause.

Everyone who registered is working hard to raise pledges and we appreciate your support! If you’re unable to walk, you can always support a walker. Click here to find a person or team to sponsor.

If you haven’t registered, you still can! Just go to friendsforlifewalk.ca.

We’ll see you at the walk!
