Unusual pet pig needs a home

After growing from a little piglet to a large adult, “Jethro” the pot-bellied pig is looking for a bigger, more spacious place to call home.

His favourite treats are grapes and he has a friendly, sociable temperament.

Jethro enjoys spending time outdoors but also loves to curl up into his blanket for a snooze.

Jethro would make a great addition to any family, however please check your municipality’s animal control bylaws first to ensure he will be allowed in your home.

To learn more about him, please contact us at the Ontario SPCA Renfrew County Branch.

Volunteer Spotlight

Our branch is thrilled at some of the incredible work our fundraisers have been up to for the Friends for Life!™ Walkathon for the Ontario SPCA Renfrew County Branch.

This month, we want to spotlight Jessica Corkrey, whose family and friends pledged $287 for her bake sale.

She also sold hand-painted wine glasses to add to money raised in order to reach her personal fundraising goal of almost $500.

Jessica's furry family includes many adopted animals, such as two rescued dogs, one rescued cat, three horses (two of which were adopted) and four goats! Jessica says, "We sort of love animals!”

You can be an #animaladvocate like Jessica and register for your local Friends for Life! Walk™ now.

Microchip clinic coming in October

Animal welfare professionals agree that microchipping is the fastest and most effective way to help lost pets get back to their families.

The Ontario SPCA Renfrew County Branch is holding a Microchip Clinic on Saturday, October 25th, 2014.

This low-cost clinic enables every pet owner, regardless of income level, to have their pet microchipped.

Microchips do not become lost, broken or worn down like pet tags or even identification tattoos.

The clinic is hosted by the Pembroke Animal Hospital. Our prices are $30 per dog and $20 per cat, with all proceeds to benefit the Ontario SPCA Renfrew County Branch.

Space is limited so book a spot with us today! For more information or to reserve an appointment, contact us at (613) 588-4508 or renfrewcounty@ospca.on.ca.

Fall in Love - iAdopt for Fall

Fall is a great time to welcome a new addition into your family! Because there’s no better time to fall in love, iAdopt For Fall.

There are many animals awaiting their forever homes at Ontario SPCA Communities across the province. Our adoption campaign “iAdopt for Fall” aims to get as many animals as possible placed into their loving forever homes.

For the month of September, the adoption rate for all adult cats is only $99 at all Ontario SPCA branches.

There is still time! iAdopt for Fall ends September 30th.

Take our online Meet Your Match™ adopter survey so you’ll know before coming in to one of our shelters which type of animal you really click with. Take the survey now!

Tips for Student Volunteers

The fall is a great time to volunteer, whether it’s for community hours or for job experience.

The Ontario SPCA receives hundreds of student volunteer applications every year; therefore it’s important that your application stands out.

If you are a high school student looking for a position within the Ontario SPCA, there are things you can do!

The most important tip is to complete every section of the online application form.

Apply early! If you need hours for the coming year, don’t wait until the end of the first semester to apply.

Positions are limited and the volunteer recruitment process can take a month or more to complete.

Volunteer positions can pop up at anytime, so check the website regularly so you don’t miss out!

Friends For Life! Walk is THIS weekend!

Tails are wagging for the Ontario SPCA Friends for Life!Walk™ .

We’re now in our final stretch with only a week left to go!

This weekend, thousands of walk participants across the province, will enjoy a stroll with their families around the park in their community to help raise support for animals in need across Ontario.

We encourage everyone to come out and walk with us! Even if you don’t have a pet, come out to enjoy the day and support this worthwhile cause.

Everyone who registered is working hard to raise pledges and we appreciate your support! If you’re unable to walk, you can always support a walker. Click here to find a person or team to sponsor.

If you haven’t registered, you still can! Just go to friendsforlifewalk.ca.

We’ll see you at the walk!
