Some Senior Loving

We are thrilled that the beautiful “Minnie” has found her forever home! While shelter life is no place for any animal long term, Minnie was a cat that struggled adjusting to life in the shelter from day one. As a senior cat she was often overlooked. Minnie needed a home that would provide a quiet sanctuary and loving reassurance.

When Ellen walked into the Ontario SPCA Huron County Branch, she formed an instant bond with Minnie and a perfect match was made!

Ellen reports that Minnie has settled in well. When her food dish is empty, Minnie will come and tell her. She also loves to take in the view from the bedroom window and Minnie sits at the side of Ellen’s chair, meowing to let her know she wants up onto her lap.

"Thank you for all of your loving care of Minnie, I'm sure she would not have survived otherwise. It is evident that she craves love, attention and cuddling," says Ellen.

Congratulations to Minnie!

Volunteer Spotlight - Meet Jessica

Jessica has been volunteering with the Ontario SPCA Huron County Branch since October 2013. She wanted a way to give back to the cats because they give us so much with just their presence and she wanted to see behind the doors of the shelter.

Jessica started by cleaning the cat cages but is now a cat cuddler and enrichment volunteer, her preferred choice! She enjoys seeing the personal growth of each of the cats. The transformation from scared shy kitty to confident sit in your lap without hesitation kitty. By providing play, grooming, confidence building and cuddle time with them, the cats get a sense of security and love that helps build there individual personalities and helps get them into their new home.

"Coming in to see who's been adopted is the greatest reward,” says Jessica.

Thank you Jessica for your dedication to the cats. We are lucky to have you as part of the team!

The Ontario SPCA depends almost entirely on the generosity of people like you - your compassion enables us to provide urgently needed care and shelter for the thousands of innocent animals that suffer from injury, abuse or neglect each year in this province.

At a time of loss, people express sympathy for friends and loved ones in a variety of ways. Attending the wake or memorial, sending a personal note, making a hot meal for the family, helping with child care or contributing to a charity.

We would like to thank the local funeral homes of Huron County that have chosen the Ontario SPCA Huron County Branch as one of a small selection of charities in which loved ones may pay tribute to those passed, by way of donations.

Adopted Dog Becomes YouTube Sensation

When Mike Filsinger posted a video on YouTube of his goddaughter Raven’s dog Bella, he had no idea it would become an internet sensation.

Their video “Dog Plays Waltz on Piano”, featuring Bella wearing a suit and Mike’s hands playing piano through the sleeves, has garnered over 72,000 views and lead to their appearance on Fox’s Cause for Paws: An All-Star Dog Spectacular
