A Letter From an Adopter

What an incredible journey our family has been through! It all started with the desire to add a perfect four legged friend to our home. Not just any one would do. He or she had to fit a very specific set of our standards in order to call our house their forever home. For two years we searched, not wanting to go to a breeder and borrowing other people's dogs to fill a part of our lives that we wanted for our children.

I came across a posting of an American bulldog named “Duke” on the Ontario SPCA Orillia Branch website. Duke had been in the shelter for four months and was performing tricks for a staff member. Duke seemed to be the fit that we were looking for! We arranged to meet him and four days later we were allowed to bring him home!

The shelter staff were amazing to deal with and their fondness for Duke was evident. Duke is perfect in almost every way shape and form and we cannot thank the staff enough for allowing us to adopt such a kind and loveable fellow.

Co-Op Students Makes the Team

Volunteers are at the heart of the Ontario SPCA Orillia Branch and this month we want to highlight Jaclyn, a Co-op student eager to learn about animal welfare.

Jaclyn chose to do her placement at the shelter and has since become a very important part of the team. She is a very dependable young lady and takes extreme pride in her work. Whether playing with the cats, walking the dogs, or cleaning and caring for the shelter animals, Jaclyn finds joy in everything she does.

We enjoy teaching Jaclyn new things and see a bright future ahead! Thanks for being part of the team.

Holiday Wish List

Some of our shelter animals might have to spend the holidays with us so we have their stockings hung.

Please help fill their stocking wish list.

- A new home

- Toys, toys and more toys

- Non-clumping cat litter

- Safe Paws outdoor salt

- Knitted blankets (24” x 24”), and blankets of any type

- Cat treats

- Raw hides

- Dollarama gift cards so they can have staff purchase toys and supplies for them.

Adopted Dog Becomes YouTube Sensation

When Mike Filsinger posted a video on YouTube of his goddaughter Raven’s dog Bella, he had no idea it would become an internet sensation.

Their video “Dog Plays Waltz on Piano”, featuring Bella wearing a suit and Mike’s hands playing piano through the sleeves, has garnered over 72,000 views and lead to their appearance on Fox’s Cause for Paws: An All-Star Dog Spectacular.
