January 2015Welcome to NewsHound!
Winter is here! With temperatures dropping across the province, remembering to keep all our family members, two-legged and four-legged, safe and warm during the winter season is crucial. Check out some great resources on the Ontario SPCA Blog to help protect your pets.
It might be cold outside, but you can keep warm in the kitchen by baking cupcakes for National Cupcake Day™ for SPCAs and Humane Societies! Learn more at nationalcupcakeday.ca.

Inseparable Kittens Stay Together
Although we try our best to keep bonded animals together, often times littermates are separated to ensure they get the best homes possible.
In the case of “Hammy” and “Marmalade”, two brothers from the same litter, we knew they were meant to stay together for life. While we considered all of the options for keeping them together, our holiday wish came true! Sandra and Kerry were looking to adopt two kittens, and to surprise Sandra, her husband Kerry gave her a photo of the pair which they would welcome into their home after the busy holiday season was over. The staff here at the Ontario SPCA Huron County Branch couldn’t be happier! View all animals available for adoption.

Room for One More?
If you have a little more time and love to give to a pet this winter but can’t commit to an adoption, consider becoming a Foster Care Volunteer with the Ontario SPCA Huron County Branch. We will match you with a pet that needs special care before they can be adopted, and provide you with all the necessary information and/or medication they require.
Pregnant dogs and cats also need special attention, along with nursing animals or newborn puppies and kittens. They need your kindness and a warm place to stay before they can find their forever homes.
Contact us at huroncounty@ospca.on.ca or by calling (519) 440-0250 to learn more.

Local Youth Really “Lifted” our Spirits
We were honoured to be chosen by local youth group, Lift Huron, as one of the recipients of a recent donation event.
The nonprofit Olympic weightlifting club for teens had been saving their money for new equipment, as well as to give back to the community. Every donation we receive helps contribute to ongoing costs such as food, supplies and medical care for the animals here at the Ontario SPCA Huron County Branch. Thank you Lift Huron for your amazing support! Visit www.thetankcrossfitgoderich.ca to learn more about this great youth program.

iAdopt for the Holidays a Big Success
iAdopt for the Holidays ran from November 1st to December 31st, 2014 across the country with the goal of getting as many animals adopted into loving new homes as possible over the holiday season.
With 42 participating partners working together, a total of 3,774 animals were adopted over the campaign period. The Ontario SPCA itself made up 1,396 of those adoptions!
We want to thank everyone that took part in the campaign. You helped to change the lives of thousands of animals in need.

Winter Care for Paws
Winter is harsh! Harsh on us humans, and harsh on our pets as well. They might have a beautiful fur coat to help protect them from some of that cold air, but like us, our furry friends require added care for their skin and paws. Ice-melting chemicals can also be harmful if left on the skin or ingested.
Read our blog post Winter Care For Your Dog’s Paws and Skin for great tips on how you can keep your pet safe and in tip top shape all winter long.
