January
2015Welcome to NewsHound!
Winter is here! With temperatures dropping across the province, remembering to
keep all our family members, two-legged and four-legged, safe and warm during the winter season is crucial.
Check out some great resources on the Ontario SPCA Blog to help
protect your pets.
It might be cold outside, but you can keep warm in the kitchen by baking
cupcakes for National Cupcake Day™ for SPCAs and Humane Societies! Learn more at nationalcupcakeday.ca.

Homeward Bound!
Each year, the Ontario SPCA Muskoka Animal Centre cares for over 1500 animals in need from surrounding communities. Although we primarily serve the Districts of Muskoka, Parry Sound and Haliburton, we also extend our resources to other communities as the need arises.
Thorugh the Northern Canine Transfer Program, the Ontario SPCA Muskoka Animal Centre provides support to ensure that adoptable dogs are given every opportunity to find their new loving home.
We recently welcomed “Misha”, a six year-old female Boxer. Misha is spayed, current on her vaccinations, has a lovely disposition and loves other dogs. She is a very polite dog who loves attention and just hanging out with her people. We suspect that she may be a bit of a couch potato as well! Please contact the shelter at 705.645.6226 for more information on Misha or view our adoptable animals here.

It takes a Community!
The team at the Ontario SPCA Muskoka Animal Center would like to express our sincere gratitude to our volunteers, donors, community friends and partners. You have supported our special events and fundraising efforts, helped to promote our shelter and animals in need and provided homes for many of our shelter animals! We are grateful and feel fortunate to be part of such a caring and supportive community.
We couldn’t do what we do for animals without your continued support! Please accept our heartfelt thanks and best wishes for the coming year! Don’t forget that every day you make a difference in the life of an animal in need!
Thank you!

iAdopt for the Holidays a Big Success
iAdopt for the Holidays ran from November 1st to December 31st,
2014 across the country with the goal of getting as many animals adopted into loving new homes as possible
over the holiday season.
With 42 participating
partners working together, a total of 3,774 animals were adopted over the campaign period. The Ontario SPCA
itself made up 1,396 of those adoptions!
We want to
thank everyone that took part in the campaign. You helped to change the lives of thousands of animals in
need.

Winter Care for Paws
Winter is harsh!
Harsh on us humans, and harsh on our pets as well. They might have a beautiful fur coat to help protect
them from some of that cold air, but like us, our furry friends require added care for their skin and paws.
Ice-melting chemicals can also be harmful if left on the skin or ingested.
Read our blog post Winter Care For Your Dog’s Paws and Skin for great tips on how you
can keep your pet safe and in tip top shape all winter long.
