Welcome to NewsHound!

Winter is here!  With temperatures dropping across the province, remembering to keep all our family members, two-legged and four-legged, safe and warm during the winter season is crucial.  Check out some great resources on the Ontario SPCA Blog to help protect your pets.

 Jack

 “Jack” Finally Meets His Match

Whenever a shelter dog is returned into our care, we always hope that the next home will be that pet’s forever home. The little Beagle “Jack” was a stray who was brought into the Ontario SPCA Orangeville & District Branch last September.

Although his tags lead us to his former owner, they were not able to claim him and could not locate the person he was given to. After Jack was adopted and returned, our staff went back to the drawing board and really worked together to solve the puzzle of Jack’s personality, with the help of a revised Meet Your Match® Canine-ality™ personality assessment. We were thrilled when a visitor to our shelter proved to be a match, and Jack is now happily settled in his forever home!

Dedication to Details is Key to Success

We are proud to highlight the hard work of Betty here at the Ontario SPCA Orangeville & District Branch.  She has been a volunteer since 2008, and pays close attention to the daily routine of each individual cat so that they thrive and feel their best. She takes her time to visit, talk to, socialize, exercise and give affection to each cat to ensure that they feel cared for. Betty even welcomed cheeky “Toby” into her existing family of felines after his owner passed. Her efforts have made a wonderful difference in the lives of the cats in our shelter.

From all the staff here at the Ontario SPCA Orangeville & District Branch we thank you Betty!

Local Grade 6 Class Raises $240

Can you spot Hunter the dog in this picture of the happy students in Mrs. Langman's Grade 6 class from Credit Meadows Elementary School?

The Ontario SPCA Orangeville & District Branch was pleased to receive a call from the school, inviting a staff member to visit and accept a donation from a fundraiser the class had planned. They raised an impressive $240 by selling donated stuffed collectables called Beanie Babies. Staff member Tracy visited the school with former shelter dog Hunter to say thank you.

We are grateful for the thoughtful donation from Mrs. Langman and all her students!

There are many ways you can help the animals.  Click here to learn more.

 iAdopt for the Holidays

iAdopt for the Holidays a Big Success

iAdopt for the Holidays ran from November 1st to December 31st, 2014 across the country with the goal of getting as many animals adopted into loving new homes as possible over the holiday season.

With 42 participating partners working together, a total of 3,774 animals were adopted over the campaign period. The Ontario SPCA itself made up 1,396 of those adoptions!

We want to thank everyone that took part in the campaign. You helped to change the lives of thousands of animals in need.

Winter Care for Paws

Winter is harsh!   Harsh on us humans, and harsh on our pets as well.  They might have a beautiful fur coat to help protect them from some of that cold air, but like us, our furry friends require added care for their skin and paws. Ice-melting chemicals can also be harmful if left on the skin or ingested.

Read our blog post Winter Care For Your Dog’s Paws and Skin for great tips on how you can keep your pet safe and in tip top shape all winter long.
