Welcome to NewsHound!

Winter is here!  With temperatures dropping across the province, remembering to keep all our family members, two-legged and four-legged, safe and warm during the winter season is crucial.  Check out some great resources on the Ontario SPCA Blog to help protect your pets.

Love When You Least Expect It

Long time supporters Doreen and Brian came into the Ontario SPCA Leeds & Grenville Branch one day for their regular visit.  Doreen does the weekly Pets of the Week promotion at our local media Eastern Ontario Network and has been involved with the shelter and the animals for adoption.

During this particular visit, they didn’t have any intention of adopting a new friend, however when they met “Angus”, a 10 week-old Cocker Spaniel, it was love at first sight.  Angus charmed Brian and Doreen, and is now living happily in his new home.

Volunteer Spotlight – Meet Katie

Katie started volunteering in the Winter of 2014, walking dogs, socializing with the cats, and helping out with cleaning at the shelter. Every Saturday morning, she comes in to help out and ensures all the dogs get their exercise and the cats get their daily dose of interaction.

Katie’s dedication to the animals is greatly appreciated and the staff at the Ontario SPCA Leeds & Grenville Branch are so grateful for all her help.  She is truly an asset to the team and we thank her for her continued support.

Ritchie Feed & Seed More Than Just Gardening

The Ontario SPCA Leeds & Grenville Branch is fortunate to be part of a vibrant and caring community.  Many local organizations have stepped forward throughout the years to help the animals in need.

We would like to highlight a great retailer Ritchie Feed & Seed Inc. for their continued support.  They help with promoting our initiatives and participate in many of our events. The staff at Ritchie Feed & Seed Inc. wanted to take their support even further and decided to choose the Ontario SPCA Leeds & Grenville Branch as their chosen local charity.  They rallied their customers and donated much needed supplies and funds to our branch.

Thank you Ritchie Feed and Seed Inc. and all of your customers for helping the
animals in our community.

There are many ways you can help too.  Visit leedsgrenville.ontariospca.ca.

Holidays

iAdopt for the Holidays a Big Success

iAdopt for the Holidays ran from November 1st to December 31st, 2014 across the country with the goal of getting as many animals adopted into loving new homes as possible over the holiday season.

With 42 participating partners working together, a total of 3,774 animals were adopted over the campaign period. The Ontario SPCA itself made up 1,396 of those adoptions!

We want to thank everyone that took part in the campaign. You helped to change the lives of thousands of animals in need.

Winter Care for Paws

Winter is harsh!   Harsh on us humans, and harsh on our pets as well.  They might have a beautiful fur coat to help protect them from some of that cold air, but like us, our furry friends require added care for their skin and paws. Ice-melting chemicals can also be harmful if left on the skin or ingested.

Read our blog post Winter Care For Your Dog’s Paws and Skin for great tips on how you can keep your pet safe and in tip top shape all winter long.
