 Brownie, Lab

She’s a Lady

“Brownie” is a beautiful chocolate lab who can mesmerize you with her eyes! She was brought to the Ontario SPCA Kent County Branch by her former owners who found themselves unable to give her the time and attention she needed.

Brownie was in need of some extra love.  Staff dedicated additional time after-hours to work one-on-one with this sweet girl, helping her become a well-behaved lady.

All their hard work paid off and Brownie found a loving home! She now has her own spot on the couch and loves to curl up with her new owner.

Volunteer Spotlight – Meet Steven

Steven Zarebski is one of the Ontario SPCA Kent County Branch’s most dedicated cat cuddlers. Steven has been coming in every Friday, rain or shine, to help socialize the cats at the shelter.

Steven has two cats, two dogs, and several fish at home that keep him busy. He first started volunteering at the shelter two years ago because he wanted to give back to the community and be able to help more animals. Since then, he’s seen countless cats he’s worked with adopted, and says it’s gratifying to know he played a role in them finding a forever home.

 Pet Valu Staff

Thank You Pet Valu

A special thank you to the staff at Pet Valu in Chatham for their ongoing commitment to animal welfare.  Over the holidays, they organized a pair of fundraisers for the Ontario SPCA Kent County Branch, which included pet and family photos with Santa, and a special dog bathing event.

In total, the two events raised close to $500 in cash and supplies for the shelter! Tails are wagging and cats are purring. A huge thank you to everyone who took part!

See the many ways you can help the Ontario SPCA Kent County Branch.

Keep Your Dog Active This Winter

While winter dog walking can sometimes be a challenge, it’s important to meet your dog’s exercise needs all year round. Not only will this keep your dog physically active during the winter months, it’ll also provide much needed mental stimulation for your dog.

The cold weather might mean shorter walks, but there are still ways to get that physical activity in.  Read the Ontario SPCA’s blog post Tips for a Safe Dog Walk This Winter for useful information.

Dogs love walks no matter what the season brings.  Just remember, if it’s too cold for you outside …it’s too cold for your pets.

Sharing the Love This Winter

Ontario SPCA staff would like to thank all of our volunteers for their support over the winter!  Cold weather hasn't stopped them.

•  Volunteers braved the cold temperatures and provided over 300 dog walks last month to ensure all the animals were getting the exercise they needed.

•  Volunteers are also set to build 20 feral cat shelters to provide warmth for homeless cats in various communities.

•  Our transportation volunteers even tackled the icy roads to safely transport our animals to various medical appointments.

Volunteers are vital to our organization and without your warm hearts we couldn’t care for all those cold noses.  If you would like to get involved and join our volunteer team, visit ontariospca.ca and complete our online application form.
