"June" Finds the Help She Needs
"June" was one of those special cats that touched our hearts. She was surrendered to the Ontario SPCA Lennox & Addington Branch last month as her owners could not take care of her anymore.
At 13 years of age, June weighed over 23 pounds. She was so large that her back legs were barely able to support her weight and she had trouble getting around.
June needed some help! We posted her story on social media and received dozens of responses and messages of support. Fortunately, a wonderful family with experience rehabilitating older and larger cats saw June’s story and adopted her. June has found her forever home and getting the care she needs.

In Memory of Shona
This month, the Ontario SPCA Lennox & Addington Branch would like to pay tribute to one of our longest and most determined volunteers, Shona Turriff. Sadly, Shona passed away in January after a long battle with cancer.
Shona had a wonderful spirit and was truly inspirational to everyone around her. She spearheaded so many local fundraising initiatives for the shelter and worked tirelessly to help the animals in our community.
Shona’s memory will stay with us forever. She will be greatly missed by all the staff, volunteers and animals.

Start planning your garden now and leave room for some potted daffodils, tulips and hyacinths. Only $5 each, with all proceeds helping the homeless animals in our community.
Potted plants will be available in March. Call 613-354-2492 or email lennoxaddington@ospca.on.ca for more information.

Keep Your Dog Active This Winter
While winter dog walking can sometimes be a challenge, it’s important to meet your dog’s exercise needs all year round. Not only will this keep your dog physically active during the winter months, it’ll also provide much needed mental stimulation for your dog. The cold weather might mean shorter walks, but there are still ways to get that physical activity in. Read the Ontario SPCA’s blog post Tips for a Safe Dog Walk This Winter for useful information.
Dogs love walks no matter what the season brings. Just remember, if it’s too cold for you outside …it’s too cold for your pets.

Sharing the Love This Winter
Ontario SPCA staff would like to thank all of our volunteers for their support over the winter! Cold weather hasn't stopped them.
• Volunteers braved the cold temperatures and provided over 300 dog walks last month to ensure all the animals were getting the exercise they needed.
• Volunteers are also set to build 20 feral cat shelters to provide warmth for homeless cats in various communities.
• Our transportation volunteers even tackled the icy roads to safely transport our animals to various medical appointments. Volunteers are vital to our organization and without your warm hearts we couldn’t care for all those cold noses. If you would like to get involved and join our volunteer team, visit ontariospca.ca and complete our online application form.
