 Jessie

Building Trust

“Jessie” was surrendered to the Ontario SPCA Midland & District Branch back in December. She had a very hard time adjusting to the shelter environment. She growled at anyone that went near her kennel and showed her teeth when staff tried to approach her. Jessie was extremely anxious and would need some extra attention.

Staff slowly tried to gain Jessie’s trust, and once she was comfortable enough to allow us to put a leash on her, she completely changed for the better. She spent her days in the office with our staff so she can see all the strange people come in and learn that they aren’t so bad.

Jessie successfully completed her training and was adopted into a loving and patient home. It just goes to show how sometimes the animals we come into contact with just need a little extra attention to show their true colors.

Volunteer Spotlight – Meet Denise

Denise Orser has been a volunteer with the Ontario SPCA Midland & District Branch since September 2013.  She comes in twice a week and helps with laundry and spends time with the cats.  She takes the time to socialize each cat and gives them the love and attention they need.

Denise has also helped out by fostering orphaned kittens, nursing and caring for them until they are ready to be put up for adoption.   She is truly a valued member of the volunteer team and has even assisted staff by driving animals to spay/neuter appointments.

Thank you Denise for everything you do for the animals.

 BMO Master Card

Round Up with BMO

There's a new way to help animals in need with the new ChangeIt® program introduced by BMO MasterCard.

Small change, big difference! BMO Mastercard holders can now round-up their credit card transactions and donate the rounded up amount to the Ontario SPCA on a monthly basis.

It might not seem like a big difference, but the small change from each transaction can add up to a significant amount of support for the life-saving work done by the Ontario SPCA.

See ChangeIt.com for more information and start helping the animals today.

Keep Your Dog Active This Winter

While winter dog walking can sometimes be a challenge, it’s important to meet your dog’s exercise needs all year round. Not only will this keep your dog physically active during the winter months, it’ll also provide much needed mental stimulation for your dog.

The cold weather might mean shorter walks, but there are still ways to get that physical activity in.  Read the Ontario SPCA’s blog post Tips for a Safe Dog Walk This Winter for useful information.

Dogs love walks no matter what the season brings.  Just remember, if it’s too cold for you outside …it’s too cold for your pets.

Sharing the Love This Winter

Ontario SPCA staff would like to thank all of our volunteers for their support over the winter!  Cold weather hasn't stopped them.

•  Volunteers braved the cold temperatures and provided over 300 dog walks last month to ensure all the animals were getting the exercise they needed.

•  Volunteers are also set to build 20 feral cat shelters to provide warmth for homeless cats in various communities.

•  Our transportation volunteers even tackled the icy roads to safely transport our animals to various medical appointments.

Volunteers are vital to our organization and without your warm hearts we couldn’t care for all those cold noses.  If you would like to get involved and join our volunteer team, visit ontariospca.ca and complete our online application form.
