Fix Your Pet

It's officially spring this week and pets everywhere will finally be able to enjoy more time outdoors.  However, more pets outside can lead to more opportunities for pet reproduction, and in turn, litters of unwanted kittens and puppies.

Pet overpopulation is already at crisis levels in Ontario!  The Ontario SPCA urges you to spay or neuter your pet and beat the spring heat. Learn more at fixyourpet.ca.

 Bene

Shy “Bene” Finds his Forever Home

The goal for any pet that comes through our doors is to have them returned to their owners or rehomed as soon as possible. As much as we love all the animals in our shelter, a forever home is what they need. Excessive time in a shelter environment can cause stress on the animals, so it became our priority to find "Bene" a loving home.

This shy feline had been in our care since May 2014. Despite his timid nature, a visitor to the Ontario SPCA Huron County Branch clicked with him and took him home, where he’s flourishing and happier than ever. Congratulations to Bene in his new home!

Cuddling Cats is Veronica’s Specialty

We are pleased to acknowledge the dedication of Ontario SPCA Huron County Branch volunteer Veronica Hotchkiss. She has been dedicating her time to our shelter since 2008, and is aptly named the “Cat Lady” since the felines in our care are so drawn to her!

Whether it is cleaning, cuddling or fundraising, Veronica does it all. She will also donate to the shelter whenever she can and we are truly appreciative for her generosity.  We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Veronica for her long-term commitment and dedication.

“Nobody” Becomes a “Somebody” Thanks to Second Graders

In a fascinating charitable experiment, the Grade 2 students of Brookside Public School in Huron County were asked turn a “Nobody” (an ageless, genderless friend) into a “Somebody” (one who helps other people, animals or the environment).

By donating her own time, Leah Cole, raised awareness and collected much needed items for the Ontario SPCA Huron County Branch! She was able to collect food, treats, towels, litter and more! We were overwhelmed by the generosity and support that Leah has provided to our shelter. Thank you Leah for helping to make “Nobody” a “Somebody”, and for thinking of the animals in need.

 Fix Your Pet

March is Fix Your Pet Month!

Spaying and neutering your pet is such an important measure to help address pet overpopulation that the Ontario SPCA has dedicated the entire month of March to Fix Your Pet

Tens of thousands of dogs and cats end up homeless on the street or orphaned every year. Having your pet spayed or neutered will directly address this problem.  The Ontario SPCA encourages the public to fix their pets and help reduce the number of unwanted pets.

Is your pet already spayed or neutered? Consider Spaying it Forward by donating the average price of a spay/neuter procedure to help an animal in need.

Fixyourpet.ca, it's the kindest thing you can do.

ChangeTheWorld

ChangeTheWorld: Ontario Youth Volunteer Challenge!

This spring, the Ontario SPCA will be promoting our No Hot Pets campaign with the help of students across the province thanks to a partnership with ChangeTheWorld: Ontario Youth Volunteer Challenge. This challenge is a six-week campaign with one goal: get high school students to volunteer in their community.

Youth will be asking the public to pledge to not leave their pets in cars. This important pet safety message will allow students to gain their community hours, learn about pet safety and help save lives!

If you would like to join the youth volunteer team in your area, please go to your local Ontario SPCA website, click on the “Get Involved” tab and sign up for our Operation No Hot Pets event.
