It's officially spring this week and pets everywhere will finally be able to enjoy more time outdoors. However, more pets outside can lead to more opportunities for pet reproduction, and in turn, litters of unwanted kittens and puppies.

“Beauty” from Within
Part of the challenge in rehoming stray dogs can be earning back their trust in humans. When “Beauty” came into our shelter, she was cautious around people and we worried it would be difficult to find her a loving family.
With time and patience, thanks to our staff and volunteers here at the Ontario SPCA Orillia Branch, Beauty finally began to open up, Playing with toys, engaging with staff and friendly tail wags were all encouraging signs. She was adopted shortly after, and we couldn’t be happier for her!

Mark your Calendars for our “Spayghetti Dinner”
Get ready for a great evening with fun, friends and a delicious dinner! Our “Spayghetti Dinner” (with no “balls”!) is being held at the Masonic Temple in Orillia on Friday May 1, 2015. This event is held annually to support the spaying and neutering of homeless animals in our community.
Be sure to grab your ticket early to avoid disappointment. Tickets can be purchased here at the Ontario SPCA Orillia Branch for only $15.

March is Fix Your Pet Month!
Spaying and neutering your pet is such an important measure to help address pet overpopulation that the Ontario SPCA has dedicated the entire month of March to Fix Your Pet!
Tens of thousands of dogs and cats end up homeless on the street or orphaned every year. Having your pet spayed or neutered will directly address this problem. The Ontario SPCA encourages the public to fix their pets and help reduce the number of unwanted pets.
Is your pet already spayed or neutered? Consider Spaying it Forward by donating the average price of a spay/neuter procedure to help an animal in need.

ChangeTheWorld: Ontario Youth Volunteer Challenge!
This spring, the Ontario SPCA will be promoting our No Hot Pets campaign with the help of students across the province thanks to a partnership with ChangeTheWorld: Ontario Youth Volunteer Challenge. This challenge is a six-week campaign with one goal: get high school students to volunteer in their community.
Youth will be asking the public to pledge to not leave their pets in cars. This important pet safety message will allow students to gain their community hours, learn about pet safety and help save lives! If you would like to join the youth volunteer team in your area, please go to your local Ontario SPCA website, click on the “Get Involved” tab and sign up for our Operation No Hot Pets event.
