March 2015 Welcome to NewsHound!
It's officially spring this week and pets everywhere will finally be able to enjoy more time outdoors. However, more pets outside can lead to more opportunities for pet reproduction, and in turn, litters of unwanted kittens and puppies.
Pet overpopulation is already at crisis levels in Ontario! The Ontario SPCA urges you to spay or neuter your pet and beat the spring heat. Learn more at fixyourpet.ca.

The Perfect Sidekick
The Ontario SPCA recently received an update on “Rory” that we wanted to share with you.
“On February 17, 2015 I adopted Rory. As you can see from the photo, Rory has made herself quite at home! It took her a bit of time, but gradually over the first few days following her adoption, Rory realized that this house was actually her home. How exciting! Rory is sweet, kind, gentle, and playful.
I very much was looking for a "sidekick" and a sidekick she is! Thanks so much for all you do for animals.”
Looking for your own sidekick? Take the Meet Your Match® survey and view animals available for adoption.

Bottle Team Works Hard
For the last eight years, the dedicated volunteers on our “Bottle Team” have worked tirelessly through all types of weather conditions to ensure the success of the Ontario SPCA Orangeville & District’s bottle drive fundraiser.
Every week, they take on the task of sorting through the piles of empty beer, wine and liquor containers that are dropped off by people in the community. There is a lot of hard work involved. It is a dirty job lifting, lugging, sorting and counting containers, yet they all do it with determination knowing that their efforts directly benefit the animals in our care.
Thank you Bottle Team!
We’re always looking for new volunteers to join the group. Contact jdavis@ontariospca.on.ca for more information.

BARC Summer Camp
Have a child between 7 – 12 years-old who loves animals? We have the perfect program. Registration is now open for the Ontario SPCA Orangeville & District Branch’s Basic Animal Responsibility Camp (BARC), a week long camp designed to keep children constantly engaged and active with animal activities, games and discussions.
The camp is running for two separate weeks this summer, July 6-10 (for kids aged 7-9 years old), and July 20-24 (for kids aged 10-12 years old). The camp fills up every year, and spots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

March is Fix Your Pet Month!
Spaying and neutering your pet is such an important measure to help address pet overpopulation that the Ontario SPCA has dedicated the entire month of March to Fix Your Pet!
Tens of thousands of dogs and cats end up homeless on the street or orphaned every year. Having your pet spayed or neutered will directly address this problem. The Ontario SPCA encourages the public to fix their pets and help reduce the number of unwanted pets.
Is your pet already spayed or neutered? Consider Spaying it Forward by donating the average price of a spay/neuter procedure to help an animal in need.
Fixyourpet.ca, it's the kindest thing you can do.

ChangeTheWorld: Ontario Youth Volunteer Challenge!
This spring, the Ontario SPCA will be promoting our No Hot Pets campaign with the help of students across the province thanks to a partnership with ChangeTheWorld: Ontario Youth Volunteer Challenge. This challenge is a six-week campaign with one goal: get high school students to volunteer in their community.
Youth will be asking the public to pledge to not leave their pets in cars. This important pet safety message will allow students to gain their community hours, learn about pet safety and help save lives! If you would like to join the youth volunteer team in your area, please go to your local Ontario SPCA website, click on the “Get Involved” tab and sign up for our Operation No Hot Pets event.
