March 2015 Welcome to NewsHound!
It's officially spring this week and pets everywhere will finally be able to enjoy more time outdoors. However, more pets outside can lead to more opportunities for pet reproduction, and in turn, litters of unwanted kittens and puppies.
Pet overpopulation is already at crisis levels in Ontario! The Ontario SPCA urges you to spay or neuter your pet and beat the spring heat. Learn more at fixyourpet.ca.

“Buddy” Meets his New Best Friend
We recently had a gentle, fun-loving Boxer/Bull Mastiff-mix named “Buddy” here at the Ontario SPCA Leeds & Grenville Branch that was looking for a forever home. He had only been in the adoption room for a short period when a visitor named Neil came in looking for a companion.
Neil was heading back to university and wanted a new canine pal to join him. A quick Meet Your Match® personality assessment paired Neil and Buddy. After spending some time with Buddy and going out for walk, Neil came back and announced Buddy was the one! We are thrilled to hear that Buddy is doing wonderfully in his new home with Neil.

Judy’s Enthusiasm Brightens Day
We are happy to highlight the efforts of Judy, a regular volunteer who has been helping the Ontario SPCA Leeds & Grenville Branch for the past three years. Her time spent at the shelter has truly made a difference.
Judy particularly enjoys socializing the cats that are available for adoption. Her joy and enthusiasm for animals really puts a smile on our faces, and we just love when she drops in with special treats for the staff too!
Thank you Judy for all of your contributions to our shelter.

Dana’s Sweet Treats Raises Funds
We are lucky to have the help of baking extraordinaire Dana LeRock of Dana’s Sweet Treats to contribute to National Cupcake Day™. Dana, an avid animal lover, baked over 300 delicious gourmet cupcakes to support our fundraiser. All of the proceeds from the cupcake sales were donated to the Ontario SPCA Leeds & Grenville Branch.
We appreciate her time and effort that helped make the day a success. To Dana and all the volunteers and supporters of National Cupcake Day, thank you for your amazing contributions!

March is Fix Your Pet Month!
Spaying and neutering your pet is such an important measure to help address pet overpopulation that the Ontario SPCA has dedicated the entire month of March to Fix Your Pet!
Tens of thousands of dogs and cats end up homeless on the street or orphaned every year. Having your pet spayed or neutered will directly address this problem. The Ontario SPCA encourages the public to fix their pets and help reduce the number of unwanted pets.
Is your pet already spayed or neutered? Consider Spaying it Forward by donating the average price of a spay/neuter procedure to help an animal in need.
Fixyourpet.ca, it's the kindest thing you can do.

ChangeTheWorld: Ontario Youth Volunteer Challenge!
This spring, the Ontario SPCA will be promoting our No Hot Pets campaign with the help of students across the province thanks to a partnership with ChangeTheWorld: Ontario Youth Volunteer Challenge. This challenge is a six-week campaign with one goal: get high school students to volunteer in their community.
Youth will be asking the public to pledge to not leave their pets in cars. This important pet safety message will allow students to gain their community hours, learn about pet safety and help save lives! If you would like to join the youth volunteer team in your area, please go to your local Ontario SPCA website, click on the “Get Involved” tab and sign up for our Operation No Hot Pets event.
