Mobile Spay/Neuter Clinic Becomes a Reality
It was a milestone event last month on the Six Nations of Grand River. On April 18-19th, Welland & District Humane Society conducted the first ever Mobile Spay/Neuter initiative.
The Mobile Spay/Neuter unit, accredited by the College of Veterinarians of Ontario (CVO), is a fully equipped mobile surgical unit designed to travel where veterinarian services are limited. The event was a pilot project aimed at addressing pet-overpopulation in remote areas, with the intent of offering spay/neuter services to other First Nations in Ontario.

Amex Employees Help Enrich Animals Lives
On May 6th, 2015, Ontario SPCA and American Express employees joined forces to build cat and dog toys as part of our enrichment program. This fun-filled day created over a 100 enrichment toys to be shared across the province to help reduce the stress of cats and dogs in our shelters.
Decreasing stress can decrease disease and the likelihood of behavior issues, which in turn helps the animals find their forever home quicker!
We can’t thank our corporate partner enough for the support they show to animals in our care. Thank you again Amex employees!
For more information on corporate volunteering opportunities, contact Carol at cmay@ospca.on.ca or call 1-888-668-7722 ext. 307.

Keep your Pets Cool
Warmer days are on the horizon! It’s not just humans excited about long walks on the beach, dogs everywhere are just as happy to be getting some fresh air and stretching those legs.
We compiled some tips to keep your pet safe on those hot blistering days:
• Fresh water is a must! Make sure your dog always has access to fresh water and a shaded area to avoid heat stoke.
• Beware of lawns that have recently been sprayed with toxic insecticides, herbicides and fertilizers. As a precaution, wipe your pet’s paws after your walk.
• Limit your time outside during peak hot periods. Early mornings or evenings when the weather is a little cooler are better options for walking your pet. These are just a few things to consider for your pet’s safety this summer.

Got a Pet? Get a Vet!™SPCAs and Humane Societies across Canada encourage pet owners that if you've 'Got a Pet? Get a Vet!™'
It’s important to establish a relationship with a veterinarian when you get a pet. Just one veterinary check-up a year will help protect against a variety of potentially life-threatening diseases, detect health problems sooner, and avoid unexpected costs.
Veterinarians provide many services such as:
• Early Disease Detection
• Regular Vaccinations
• Flea, Tick and Parasite Prevention
• Prevention of Dental Disease
• Nutritional Counselling
• Pet Identification
• And so much more! Don’t wait until something goes wrong to take your pet in for a check-up. Schedule a visit with your local veterinarian to ensure a longer, healthier life for your pet(s).

No Hot Pets is Back!
Temperatures have already broken records in some areas of Ontario and calls are coming in to report pets being left in vehicles.
Tuesday, May 19th marks the official launch of the No Hot Pets campaign.
The Ontario SPCA wants to remind pet owners of the dangers of leaving pets unattended in a vehicle during the hot summer months.
Parked cars can quickly reach deadly temperatures, even on relatively mild days with the car parked in the shade and the windows slightly open.
Don’t forget your pet and pledge to NOT leave your pet in a vehicle this summer.
Visit nohotpets.ca and help spread the word about the dangers of leaving pets in vehicles.
