 Chance

A Second “Chance”

“Chance” was a 10-month-old cat found abandoned by a caring community member.  When he arrived at the Ontario SPCA Sudbury & District Animal Centre, he needed immediate medical care as his hind leg had been severely injured.
After an assessment by a local veterinary clinic, it was determined that Chance would require a leg amputation.

The surgery was a success and Chance has recovered nicely.  We are happy to announce that on May 3rd, 2015 this sweet little guy was adopted and has been giving a second “chance” thanks to a loving family.

His surgery and care could not have been possible without the generous support from our community.

Volunteer Spotlight - Meet Jocelyn

Volunteers are the heart of our organization, and this month, we would like to thank Jocelyn Foley, a volunteer with the Ontario SPCA Sudbury & District Animal Centre for the past four years.

Jocelyn has been a great support in many of our events including our Friends for Life! Walk™, the Furry Friends Feast, and the annual Christmas parade.

Jocelyn has also taken part in many of our much needed foster care programs and has been a great advocate at educating people on the general care, needs and responsibility of owning a small animal. Jocelyn is truly a compassionate and caring person and devotes a lot of her time with the animals.

Thank you Jocelyn for everything you do.

Furry Friends Feast a Roaring Success

The Ontario SPCA Sudbury & District Animal Centre celebrated its 15th Annual Furry Friends Feast at Collège Boréal on April 20th, 2015.
This year’s event was a Rock & Roll 50’s and 60’s “Happy Days Party”. Attendees really embraced the theme, dressing for the occasion and dancing to the great talent of DJ Lucie St-Louie.

Thank you to all the dedicated staff, volunteers and supporters for helping make this event such a great success.

A special thank you to Collège Boréal for providing such a beautiful venue, and Coop Boréal for serving up such a delicious menu which even included ice cream floats.

Got a Pet? Get a Vet!™

SPCAs and Humane Societies across Canada encourage pet owners that if you've 'Got a Pet? Get a Vet!™'

It’s important to establish a relationship with a veterinarian when you get a pet. Just one veterinary check-up a year will help protect against a variety of potentially life-threatening diseases, detect health problems sooner, and avoid unexpected costs.
Veterinarians provide many services such as:

•  Early Disease Detection
•  Regular Vaccinations
•  Flea, Tick and Parasite Prevention
•  Prevention of Dental Disease
•  Nutritional Counselling
•  Pet Identification
•  And so much more!

Don’t wait until something goes wrong to take your pet in for a check-up. Schedule a visit with your local veterinarian to ensure a longer, healthier life for your pet(s).

Visit gotapetgetavet.ca for a list of veterinarians in your area.

No Hot Pets

No Hot Pets is Back!

Temperatures have already broken records in some areas of Ontario and calls are coming in to report pets being left in vehicles.

Tuesday, May 19th marks the official launch of the No Hot Pets campaign.

The Ontario SPCA wants to remind pet owners of the dangers of leaving pets unattended in a vehicle during the hot summer months.

Parked cars can quickly reach deadly temperatures, even on relatively mild days with the car parked in the shade and the windows slightly open.

Don’t forget your pet and pledge to NOT leave your pet in a vehicle this summer.

Visit nohotpets.ca and help spread the word about the dangers of leaving pets in vehicles.
