Timid “Zelda” Finds a Home

While strikingly beautiful, we wondered how timid Doberman Pinscher “Zelda” could be socialized to come out of her shell. She came to the Ontario SPCA Leeds & Grenville Branch after her owners could no longer care for her.

Thankfully, 9-year-old Zelda began to open up to our staff and showed her gentle personality. Michelle and Cory spotted her on the Meet Your Match® website, and knew they could offer her the home she needed. We are happy to report they are one big happy family!

Treats by Sue

We love to see the delight on furry faces when Sue Graham comes to brush, socialize and spoil our cats! Sue has been volunteering at the Ontario SPCA Leeds & Grenville Branch since 2007, and loves to dispense tasty treats not just to pets, but to our staff as well! She also spends time with the dogs, and makes the day a bit brighter for all of the animals and staff at our shelter.

Thank you Sue for “treating” us to your kindness!

A New Holiday Tradition

The donations we receive comes in all forms, and we welcome each and every supporter and their contributions. Kaitlyn Rowan and Chris Walker are two of our wonderful supporters who came into the Ontario SPCA Leeds & Grenville Branch  during the Christmas holidays to donate cat and dog food, towels, cat toys and more. They told us they were planning to make it an annual tradition.

We want to thank Chris and Kaitlyn for their generosity, and that the animals appreciated their special gifts!

Got a Pet? Get a Vet!™

SPCAs and Humane Societies across Canada encourage pet owners that if you've 'Got a Pet? Get a Vet!™'

It’s important to establish a relationship with a veterinarian when you get a pet. Just one veterinary check-up a year will help protect against a variety of potentially life-threatening diseases, detect health problems sooner, and avoid unexpected costs.
Veterinarians provide many services such as:

•  Early Disease Detection
•  Regular Vaccinations
•  Flea, Tick and Parasite Prevention
•  Prevention of Dental Disease
•  Nutritional Counselling
•  Pet Identification
•  And so much more!

Don’t wait until something goes wrong to take your pet in for a check-up. Schedule a visit with your local veterinarian to ensure a longer, healthier life for your pet(s).

Visit gotapetgetavet.ca for a list of veterinarians in your area.

No Hot Pets

No Hot Pets is Back!

Temperatures have already broken records in some areas of Ontario and calls are coming in to report pets being left in vehicles.

Tuesday, May 19th marks the official launch of the No Hot Pets campaign.

The Ontario SPCA wants to remind pet owners of the dangers of leaving pets unattended in a vehicle during the hot summer months.

Parked cars can quickly reach deadly temperatures, even on relatively mild days with the car parked in the shade and the windows slightly open.

Don’t forget your pet and pledge to NOT leave your pet in a vehicle this summer.

Visit nohotpets.ca and help spread the word about the dangers of leaving pets in vehicles.
