 Dierks

Energetic “Dierks” Finds a Home

It was fun to have the adorable “Dierks”, a joyful Labrador mix, at the Ontario SPCA Kent County Branch! Originally a stray, Dierks needed some help learning his manners.  His boundless energy was entertaining, but we knew it would take a similarly high-energy family to keep up with him!

Thanks to the Meet your Match® program, Dierks found the perfect match and was adopted by a loving family.  They have reported that Dierks has settled down nicely in their house and is a pleasure to be with.

Over the Moon for Terry Moon

Terry Moon has been volunteering at the Ontario SPCA Kent County Branch for three years. He began helping out by doing odd jobs and repairs around the shelter.

Currently, Terry is our “go to” man for the Bottle Drive program, sorting and returning empty beer and liquor bottles to the Beer Store every week. He always comes to work with a smile on his face and returns from his deliveries with treats for the staff. We are grateful to have the support of such dedicated and enthusiastic volunteer!

Tate Donates on his 11th Birthday

Tate Wilkins celebrated his 11th birthday in style, raising money and collecting donations for the Ontario SPCA Kent County Branch. Tate and his friends gathered at the Wish Centre in Chatham for a day of games, cupcakes, and lots of fun.

Afterwards, Tate and his mom stopped by the shelter to drop off the proceeds – everything from litter and food to treats and supplies for the shelter. What a generous young man, using his birthday to give gifts to help animals in need in Chatham-Kent!   The animals thank you!

SPCAs and Humane Societies across Canada encourage pet owners that if you've 'Got a Pet? Get a Vet!™'

It’s important to establish a relationship with a veterinarian when you get a pet. Just one veterinary check-up a year will help protect against a variety of potentially life-threatening diseases, detect health problems sooner, and avoid unexpected costs.
Veterinarians provide many services such as:

•  Early Disease Detection
•  Regular Vaccinations
•  Flea, Tick and Parasite Prevention
•  Prevention of Dental Disease
•  Nutritional Counselling
•  Pet Identification
•  And so much more!

Don’t wait until something goes wrong to take your pet in for a check-up. Schedule a visit with your local veterinarian to ensure a longer, healthier life for your pet(s).

No Hot Pets

No Hot Pets is Back!

Temperatures have already broken records in some areas of Ontario and calls are coming in to report pets being left in vehicles.

Tuesday, May 19th marks the official launch of the No Hot Pets campaign.

The Ontario SPCA wants to remind pet owners of the dangers of leaving pets unattended in a vehicle during the hot summer months.

Parked cars can quickly reach deadly temperatures, even on relatively mild days with the car parked in the shade and the windows slightly open.

Don’t forget your pet and pledge to NOT leave your pet in a vehicle this summer.

Visit nohotpets.ca and help spread the word about the dangers of leaving pets in vehicles.
