 Passion

Frostbitten “Passion”

"Passion" lost part of her ear to frostbite while living her life as a stray cat before coming to us at the Ontario SPCA Huron County Branch

To some, her unusual ear may have been something they weren’t used to seeing, but for potential adopter Jill, she was immediately drawn to Passion because she was "different" and stood out from all of the rest of the cats.

After spending some time with Passion and seeing  her snuggly, loving nature, Jill knew Passion was the purfect match!  It didn’t take her long to settle in her new home and Passion quickly made friends with the resident cat!

Celebrating our Volunteers

National Volunteer Week is a time to recognize, celebrate and thank Canada’s volunteers. This year's National Volunteer Week took place from April 12-18, 2015, during which time the Ontario SPCA Huron County Branch celebrated our volunteers at our Volunteer Appreciation Event.

A fun time was had by those who were able to attend! Our helpful volunteers have supported us in fundraising, transferring animals, animal enrichment, adoptions, administration and more! The efforts and passion of our volunteers enables our organization to provide a higher standard of care in our shelter.  Thank you!

 Cat Toys

Hand Made Cat Toys Bring Joy

Rita Rommens began creating cats toys for the Ontario SPCA Huron County Branch last September. The first time she made a toy was for her own cat who really enjoyed it, and so she thought that the cats at our shelter would enjoy them too!

Rita's toys are extra special because they are crocheted from plastic bags. A big thank you to Rita for providing our cats with great entertainment while at the shelter!

Got a pet Get a Vet

Got a Pet? Get a Vet!™

SPCAs and Humane Societies across Canada encourage pet owners that if you've 'Got a Pet? Get a Vet!™'

It’s important to establish a relationship with a veterinarian when you get a pet. Just one veterinary check-up a year will help protect against a variety of potentially life-threatening diseases, detect health problems sooner, and avoid unexpected costs.
Veterinarians provide many services such as:

•  Early Disease Detection
•  Regular Vaccinations
•  Flea, Tick and Parasite Prevention
•  Prevention of Dental Disease
•  Nutritional Counselling
•  Pet Identification
•  And so much more!

Don’t wait until something goes wrong to take your pet in for a check-up. Schedule a visit with your local veterinarian to ensure a longer, healthier life for your pet(s).

Visit gotapetgetavet.ca for a list of veterinarians in your area.

No Hot Pets

No Hot Pets is Back!

Temperatures have already broken records in some areas of Ontario and calls are coming in to report pets being left in vehicles.

Tuesday, May 19th marks the official launch of the No Hot Pets campaign.

The Ontario SPCA wants to remind pet owners of the dangers of leaving pets unattended in a vehicle during the hot summer months.

Parked cars can quickly reach deadly temperatures, even on relatively mild days with the car parked in the shade and the windows slightly open.

Don’t forget your pet and pledge to NOT leave your pet in a vehicle this summer.

Visit nohotpets.ca and help spread the word about the dangers of leaving pets in vehicles.
