Welcome to NewsHound!
Another summer has come and gone and we want to thank everyone who took the pledge to NOT leave pets unattended in vehicles. Now that the cooler weather is upon us, it's time to pull out the sweaters and enjoy some fall weather with our furry friends. To kick off the new season, we have some great fall tips to share. Special Needs "Franklin" Finds a Special Family
“Franklin”, a two-year-old French Bulldog cross came in to the Ontario SPCA Leeds & Grenville Branch of with very little history. He was removed from a home where he wasn’t receiving the care and love he required.
Franklin was a special little guy with special needs and we knew it would take an exceptional family to adopt him. He has some seasonal allergies and was also diagnosed with a prolapsed third eyelid gland. This didn’t stop the Ashe family from making him part of their family. When they met Franklin, they knew he was meant to come home with them. Franklin is now where he belongs and everyone at the shelter was happy to see him go to a good home.

Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Lisa
Lisa Hargreaves has been a volunteer at the Ontario SPCA Leeds & Grenville Branch for over six years now. She started out as a dog walker and has helped by fostering a litter of orphaned kittens. Lisa has also been a great help with some of the special fundraising events such as the Friends for life! Walk™.
These days, Lisa stops in to help re-stock cat litter and food supplies in each animal room and helps us catch up on laundry duty. Through he years, she has adopted several animals including four cats and one dog, and is currently 'fostering to adopt' Molly the calico kitten.

Friends for life! Walk™ Takes Place this Weekend
This weekend is our biggest and most exciting fundraiser of the year, the Friends for life! Walk™ and it’s not too late to register and join us for a great day of fun! The walk will be taking place at 9am this Sunday, September 20th on the trails of Mac Johnson Wildlife Area just behind the shelter located at 800 Centennial Road in Brockville. There’s fun for the whole family with pet contests, a delicious BBQ and so much more.

A Day in the Life of a Service Dog
“Thai” isn’t your average dog. She is a sweet girl with a pretty important job….to keep her owner Medric Cousineau, who suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), safe.

Not all dogs can be service dogs. “The ability to stay curled up under a table, for three hours, for a dog, it’s a skill. It’s an acquired, trained, skill,” says Cousineau.

No Hot Pets Campaign a Huge Success
The 2015 No Hot Pets campaign has now come to a close and we would like to thank everyone who helped to spread the word about the dangers of leaving pets in hot vehicles.
The campaign was a huge success, with close to 100 SPCAs, Humane Societies and Rescue Groups across Canada participating. The campaign reached millions of viewers online and saw thousands of people sign the online pledge.
With your help, we were able to save pets’ lives this summer! We look forward to launching the campaign again in May 2016.

Separation Anxiety and Your Pet
It’s back to school and back to routine. For many of us, that means having to leave our pets home alone for longer periods of time.
A change in schedule and routine can lead to many pets experiencing separation anxiety as they aren’t used to the quieter household.
If your pet is displaying any of these symptoms, they may be experiencing separation anxiety:
• Urinating and Defecating
• Barking and Howling
• Chewing, Digging and Destruction of household
• Escaping from where confined when left alone, or separated from guardian
