Community support is saving animals like Marcus
Marcus arrived in our care as a stray on a blustery winter day back in February. He was found wandering on the side of a very busy highway in Renfrew County. Due to his poor condition, if Marcus hadn’t been discovered that day, his fate might have been very different.
Not only was Marcus’s body temperature dangerously low upon arrival, he was also struggling to breathe. He was severely dehydrated and his paws and tail were frostbitten. He also had a few nasty wounds and extreme hair loss. Marcus was immediately rushed to a local animal hospital for emergency care.
He spent the next three days receiving lifesaving treatment and care at Petawawa Animal Hospital. Every day Marcus got a little better and by day three, we knew there was hope for our furry friend!
Sadly, no one came forward to claim Marcus. Once he returned to our care from the animal hospital, Marcus spent the next four weeks receiving daily medication and lots of extra TLC to help him heal and thrive. During this time, Marcus also received care through the great team at Pembroke Animal Hospital.
Marcus was getting stronger each day; we could truly feel how thankful he was for all the care and love he was getting! Through his treatments, it was further determined that due to the severe frostbite on his tail, a portion of his tail would need to be amputated.
After just over five weeks in our care, Marcus was strong enough to find his forever loving home! It is through generous support from individuals and companies like Docupet, which recently donated close to $2,000 to our animal centre through their partnership with Town of Petawawa, that animals like Marcus can get the care they need.
