Bento's Update!

Earlier this year the Ontario SPCA Provincial Education & Animal Centre received a large number of Pugs, Boston Terriers and Chihuahuas.

One of the pugs they received was pregnant. 'Bento' is one of her puppies.

After mom was adopted into a loving family, so were her puppies.

"'Tank' is doing great! We re-named him Bento, which means blessed in Portuguese (also short for Benedict). He's super cuddly and loves to play."

Read more on Bento and other adoption updates here.

We Have Horses Too!

Are you looking to adopt a new companion? Did you know the Ontario SPCA doesn’t just have dogs and cats, but horses too?

Horses require a lot of care and resources and can be quite a financial strain on the Society. Currently we have many in our care and we are trying to find them loving homes.

Velvet is one such horse who happens to be pregnant! Be sure to check the Ontario SPCA Muskoka Animal Centre's website in the coming weeks to find out how you can follow Velvet's adventure into motherhood.

If you, or someone you know, are interested in adopting one, please visit our website.

For more information on our horses, please contact Inspector A. Green at 705-728-7311 ext. 2  or email agreen@ospca.on.ca.

spay it forward

Spay it Forward - it's Fix Your Pet Month!

Pet overpopulation is at crisis levels in Ontario. Each year, tens of thousands of dogs and cats end up on the streets, where they fall victim to neglect and abuse, or in shelters in search of new homes.

To learn more about the importance of spaying and neutering your pets, please visit Fixyourpet.ca – it’s the kindest thing you can do!

If you don’t have a pet, you can still help reduce pet overpopulation and “Spay It Forward”.

When you Spay It Forward, you will receive a special gift from us at the Ontario SPCA, as a thank you for your generosity and commitment to helping reduce the pet overpopulation! Click here to Spay It Forward now!

Want more information on the importance of spaying and neutering? Listen to our new pawdcast.

Does your pet need to be fixed? Register for the waiting list online to have your pet spayed or neutered.

 volunteer jesse

Thank you to Jesse Murray!

Jesse joined the Ontario SPCA because she has always had a love for animals and wanted to find a way to give back to her community. She has been a part of the team at the Provincial Education & Animal Centre for almost a year.

She socializes with the animals, helps potential adopters, and does a lot of maintenance around the facility.

Jesse cares for two dogs and a rabbit at home, and says 'it's extremely gratifying to watch an animal find a forever home with a loving family'. Her pets are such an important part of her life and she loves to see people add to their families too.

Jesse has learned first hand that these animals are eager to love and become an important part of that special someone's life, despite what some of their pasts may have put them through.

Thank you Jesse!

 CupcakeDay

Thank You to Everyone Who Participated in National Cupcake Day!

On Monday, February 24th we celebrated National Cupcake Day™ for SPCAs & Humane Societies.

Participants baked cupcakes for friends, family and coworkers and hosted National Cupcake Day™ parties. Guests donated to attend the party, and raised critically-needed funds for abused, abandoned, or neglected animals.

We want to say a special "thank you" to everyone who took part by helping make National Cupcake Day such a huge success! We had a 100% increase in hosts who registered and held events this year compared to last year! Even Mrs. Harper held a cupcake party on Parliment Hill!

Another thank you goes out to everyone who supported Animal Welfare by purchasing cupcakes.

Thanks to PetSecure Pet Health Insurance, Reynolds Consumer Products, BMO Bank of Montreal and Agency59 for their generous support of this year’s event.

Stay tuned for our next issue of Newshound where we'll be announcing the total funds raised!
