What is the Friends for Life! walk-a-thon?

The friends for Life! walk-a-thon is an Ontario wide walk to raise money in support of the Ontario SPCA and its fight against animal cruelty and the promotion of animal welfare.

Why should I participate in the Friends for Life! walk-a-thon?

The Friend for Life walk-a-thon is not just a walk in the park. It is unique amongst walk-a-thon in that it is in support of animals, animals that require immediate care, in some cases to survive. These animals may have be rescued by an Ontario SPCA peace officer and in some cases suffering from, neglect, abuse, abandonment, or surrendered because their owner is unable or unwilling to care for them any longer. The Ontario SPCA is a not for profit organization depending on the support of it surrounding communities to be able to provide a voice for thousand of animals in need. The Friend for Life! walk-a-thon is the Ontario SPCA way of raising critical fund to help support our accentual programs.

What if I can’t walk attend a walk? 

Become a virtual walk! You don`t have to walk at the Friend for Life! walk-a-thon to support the animals of the Ontario SPCA. Your support in becoming a fundraiser and raising critical funds is a great way to participate and support the Ontario SPCA. By becoming a virtual you are doing a great thing!

Where do my fundraising dollars go?

Your fundraising dollars go towards the but not limited to the below list of programs and services provided by the Ontario SPCA.

  • Cruelty Investigations 
  • Sheltering and Adoptions 
  • Government and Industry 
  • Advocacy 
  • Humane Education 
  • Reducing Pet Overpopulation 
  • Emergency Rescue and Treatment 
  • Reuniting Lost Pets with their Owners 
  • Family Violence Assistance Program (helping care for the pets of women in women's shelters) 
  • Youth and Animal Project (dog training program that matches hard-to-adopt dogs with troubled youth, who act as trainers)

Without your help the Ontario SPCA would not be able to continue to provide these services.

How much of the funds raised goes to the animals? 

64% for every dollar raised will go directly towards animal care and protection!

Does the Ontario SPCA need volunteers for the Walk?

What should be my fundraising goal?

We suggest that individuals aim to raise $250 each. This may seem daunting but for the 2011 Friends for Life! walk-a-thon, many participants easily surpassed that goal. Fundraising is easier than expected with the help of your online fundraising page and support from the Friend for Life walk-a-thon staff. If you need more help email walk@ospca.on.ca

What if I can’t raise the target amount?The Ontario SPCA provides effective fundraising tips and tricks to help you raise the target amount. However, any amount of funds raised will help animals in need and your participation is a helpful way to increase awareness around Ontario.

Can I get a tax receipt for fundraising?

All donations over $10 will receive a tax receipt. Tax receipts are valid for Canadian residents only. All donor information, including full name and address, must be provided.

Can I bring an animal to the walk?

Dogs are welcome to attend the Friend for Life! Walk-a-thon. Please remember you are responsible for your animal at all times if your dog does not enjoy the company of other canines or people, please leave him at home. Please poop and scoop- don’t bend and pretend.
