Friends for Life Walk-a-thon: Barrie

Your Impact - The animals need you!

The Ontario SPCA is only able to be there for animals thanks to the generosity of donors. The demand for the Society’s services has reached critical levels and there is an urgent need to protect the animals. The Ontario SPCA receives no government funding for animal protection, rescue or adoption services. We must rely on the support of our gracious family of supporters to feed, protect and shelter thousands of abused, lost and abandoned animals we expect to care for in the upcoming year.

How donor dollars helped in 2011:

Intervention and Rescue

  • Last year, Ontario SPCA agents across the province investigated no less than 13,000 complaints of animal cruelty, issued more than 1,700 orders, removed over 2,800 animals from life threatening situations and laid more than 240 criminal code and provincial charges.

Education and Awareness

  • In 2011, we performed over 7,500 surgeries at our spay/neuter clinics to help prevent unwanted pets and overcrowding in animals shelters, and visited schools to educate children about the humane treatment of animals.

Your support for the 2012 Friends for Life walk-a-thon will help us to:

  • Establish a 1-800 centralized rescue hotline.
  • Create a new Provincial Investigations Facility with a triage center, staffed by a group of specialized officers highly trained in handling large removals and how to document neglect to ensure success in the courts.
  • Enhance our animal transfer program to safely transport animals.
  • Strengthen and enhance our commitment to shelter health and wellness through our new Chief Veterinarian.
  •  Promote and expand our high volume spay/neuter clinics, doubling our capacity at our Newmarket site.

What your dollars accomplish:

Raising $1000 will support our emergency response efforts to rescue animals in immediate and urgent need.
Raising $500 will provide the specialized care and medical attention these dogs desperately need after a lifetime of neglect.
Raising $250 allows us to provide one animal a fill medical exam.
Raising $100 allows us to provide one spay or neuter for an animal in need.
Raising $50 allows us to provide shelter stay for one animal in need.

This is an event every participant and sponsor can enjoy and fell proud to be a part of!
