Little Leo

The Ontario SPCA Barrie Animal Centre needs your help with two special dogs that were in desperate need of urgent medical care.

Little Leo is a sweet 17-month-old Yorkshire Terrier with a heart of a lion. Unfortunately, Leo’s owners had to surrender him to get him the best care possible. When Leo arrived at the Barrie Animal Centre, he was extremely lethargic, depressed and in obvious discomfort.

We began his care immediately as he was extremely thin and wouldn’t eat. We needed to begin diagnostics immediately and do what ever we can to help this poor little guy. Results of his ultrasounds showed that Leo had a foreign object in his intestinal tract and he went in for emergency surgery where a small piece of plastic was removed.

Please consider donating towards the care of animals just like Little Leo and Nova so more animals can get the life-saving care they deserve.

Nova

Nova is from a large transfer from Whitefish Bay First Nation. After a series of tests, Nova tested positive for heartworm. This treatment is extremely taxing on the dog’s caretakers and very taxing on the dog. It requires a complex and expensive treatment.

A six month plan was set into place by staff and veterinarians working with the foster home to ensure Nova would have the best possible chance for success. A series of injections, antibiotics and preventative medications began. Nova’s treatment is now almost completed, and we are hopeful she will make a full recovery.

It’s thanks to our wonderful community, that animals like Little Leo and Nova are able to get the urgent care needed for a second chance at life. Please consider donating towards the care of animals just like Little Leo and Nova so more animals can get the life-saving care they deserve.
