To beat the odds, Karlie had to survive a house fire and being abandoned by her mother.

When Karlie’s home caught fire in July, she and her German Shepherd-mix siblings were left behind by their panicked mother. Knowing they needed help to care for the 10 young puppies, the owner of the puppies brought them to the Ontario SPCA Midland & District Animal Centre.

While the puppies, then six weeks old, were in good condition despite their ordeal, we could see one of the puppies required specialized medical attention. A veterinary examination revealed sweet little Karlie needed surgery to correct a congenital abnormality affecting her hind end, causing constant urinary tract infections.

Karlie has since undergone surgery to correct the issue and is on the road to rehabilitation in foster care. While she continues to improve every day, the cost of her medical care is ongoing to ensure a complete recovery, which is why we need your help. It’s estimated that her surgery and rehabilitation costs will exceed $5,000.

Please make a special gift today to help Karlie, and animals like her, receive the life-saving care they deserve.
